Dear Crissy

Laundry time-saving tips & BHG Best New Product Awards

Staying on top of my family’s laundry is challenging at times, but with the right products and a few time-saving tips, it’s easy to keep that daunting pile of laundry organized, fresh, and most importantly — super clean.

Tide Pods

I was recently given the chance to review a few P&G products that are among the winners of the Better Homes and Gardens Best New Product Awards. Check out the May issue of Better Homes and Gardens (on-sale 4/16/2013) for more info on the winners, as well as more on my Power Room (the laundry room!) and my Power Tips!

In case you were wondering, yes, I am crazy-excited to be featured in BHG, and I hope you’ll pick up a copy to see me and the other bloggers featured!

About Better Homes and Gardens Best New Product Awards

The P&G products featured below are among winners of the Better Homes and Gardens Best New Product Award, which recognizes the most appealing and innovative new products each year. What makes the Best New Product Award so special, is that the products are voted on and chosen by consumers like you and me — not by experts or editors! I love that.

The first product I tried — Tide Pods — have quickly found a permanent place in my laundry routine.

Tide Pods are a detergent, brightener, and stain remover all conveniently wrapped up in one powerful little package!

Just pop a pod in the washer to avoid the drippy mess that comes with liquid detergent (I always end up with liquid detergent on my hands)! I’ve found that these dissolve quickly in hot or cold water, and give me bright clean clothes with a long-lasting fresh scent. Even my husband’s “garage clothes” — the worst of the worst — come out soft and stain-free.

Power tip: Corral those baby socks

Baby socks are truly the laundry equivalent of a needle in a haystack. Save time by placing your little one’s socks in a lingerie bag (or any mesh bag with a zipper or drawstring closure) to keep the pairs together, it’s such a timesaver!

Tide Pods

Next up, a product that I had used prior to this project — Tide to Go Stain Eraser.

My family is particularly prone to food stains. I can’t really even put all the blame on the kids, because I am notorious for walking out of restaurants with a food or drink stain on my top. It’s not exactly a glamorous trait, but it’s true, I’m kind of messy.

Unfortunately, my kids must have inherited the gene. Between the three of us, having an on-the-go solutions for stains is a must!

Tide To Go

Tide to Go Stain Eraser’s micro-fiber pad lifts and absorbs stains in under 60 seconds. I can tell you from personal experience that these really, really, REALLY work. I recently saved one of Evan’s white t-shirts from a blueberry stain in a restaurant — awesome product.

Power tip: Be prepared for stains

It’s best to treat stains immediately, before they have time to set in. I like to stash a few Tide to Go Stain Eraser’s in my bag, in the car, and around the house for easy access. You never know where or when stains will happen, and having the tools to treat them close at hand can save time and trouble later.

Finally, I tried Downy Infusions dryer sheets in Lavender Serenity.

Downy Infusions

I have to admit, I sort of love dryer sheets, and Downy Infusions in Lavender Serenity is my idea of fragrance heaven. I immediately picked out a layer of vanilla scent, which gives me a soothing wave of warmth every time I smell my clothes. It’s amazing how deeply fragrance can impact our moods in a positive way.

Downy Infusions also make my clothes feel soft and luxurious. I love that something as simple as a dryer sheet can make such a noticeable difference in the way my clothes feel.

Power tip: Save time and freshen your laundry room

Do you love the scent of dryer sheets? I know I do. Try removing dryer sheets from the package, and placing them in a basket or decorative open container near your dryer. You’ll find that they are easier to grab, plus, your whole laundry room will smell absolutely amazing!

Ensuring that your family’s laundry is fresh and clean is a big job, and an important one. Finding the perfect go-to products for the job can make all the difference, and so can developing your own laundry routine to save time.

I’d love to know, do you have any great laundry tips or tricks? Leave it in a comment below!

Laundry & I do not get along. It seems to be the one thing that makes me behind every week. I’m going to try to Go Stain Eraser. Looks like it might help with the dirt stains from outside sports like baseball and football. Thanks!

ALL makes a scent free/dye free pod that I started using a couple of months ago. Love the pods. My husband and kids really like them too because there is no mess to deal with.

I have not tried any of the products you mentioned above! Now I am curious! I am a mom to a boy and he loves to play hard. He is always coming home with dirt and grime on his pants.

When it comes to doing laundry at home, I prefer to use things that have a nice fresh scent, however have to watch what we use due to allergies. I’ve always laundered my items with P&G products and am excited to try out the Pods.

I hate having my washer and dryer in our dingy basement. It often means that not only am I carrying heavy baskets up and down the stairs, but I often forget I have clothes in the washer and dryer. :-( Congrats on the ad!

I love to hang my clothes outside. It helps to keep the items wrinkle free too. When taking the items off the line, I fold and sort at the same time. It’s easy to sort, since I can see what item I’m folding next. It also makes folding socks easy, just pair them off when taking them off the line. It also makes the clothes smell fresh

Dryer sheets are really good to wipe out stinky ashtrays. They really clean and freshen the ashtray.

I love doing laundry. I just hate folding it and putting it away. I don’t really have any tips, or tricks. I just do it, whether I like it or not. I haven’t tried Tide Pods yet, maybe I should.
