Diaper Pail Test Drive Conclusion *

So, my month-long test period using the Playtex® Diaper Genie II Elite™, and the Arm & Hammer™ Diaper Pail by Munchkin is over. After countless trips to these devices, and numerous dirty diapers, I feel that I have a pretty thorough knowledge of both pails, and following are my candid thoughts on both.

Diaper Genie

To be perfectly honest, both the Diaper Genie and the Arm & Hammer Pails are adequate means of diaper disposal. They are both simple to use, will for the most part hide the diaper odor (though I found the Arm & Hammer to be slightly better at odor control, for the record) and both are relatively easy to empty. However, I will be retiring both of these diaper pails to attic storage and returning to simply pitching my kid’s dirty diapers in the trash can and emptying often.

As a busy mom, the extra steps involved in using the diaper pails are just unnecessary. I also really dislike having the device taking up space in my home, and now that my baby is mobile, the last thing I want is for him to have one more obstacle in his path.

I have friends who swear by their diaper pails, as I’m sure a lot of you may, but for our family, we’re going to stick with Kroger sacks and the trash can.

I am a member of the Mom Central community and I wrote this review while participating in a Test Drive campaign by Mom Central, sponsored by Diaper Genie, and received a free Diaper Genie diaper pail and a free Munchkin Arm & Hammer diaper pail to facilitate my review.

  1. Kroger sacks and the trash can….as good a diaper disposal method as any! If you want extra odor control you could always get those blue diaper disposal sacks like you carry in a diaper bag, they have smelly good stuff that cuts the odor….but really, if your taking your trash out often its probably not an issue…we just carry our super stinky dipes down to the garage to the big can and its a non issue for us.
And, you can always keep a box of arm & hammer handy to sprinkle in the trash can to cut odors instead of buying an arm & hammer diaper pail that takes up precious real estate in your nursery!

  2. When I had Noah I had the diaper genie…but it didn't last long and I didn't end up using it for at all with Chloe's diapers.
I know moms who swear by a diaper pail too and consider it a baby shower must have. It just wasn't for us either.

  3. We used a Diaper Genie for awhile with my 2nd child, and found the extra steps (and not the best of smells coming from it) to be too inconvenient. We are on Baby #4 now, and do just as you said here. Fold her diaper up, throw them in the can outside. If we are feeling lazy, they are thrown in an indoor trash can, and dumped at night. Works for us!

  4. you know, i had a diaper genie for all three kids and rarely used it….we just put it in the kitchen and tossed it…..i probably could no t sell the thing at a yard sale if I wanted. We go through so many diapers it is silly so it goes out daily.
but lots of people swear by them. good review
