ERGObaby carrier review
During my pregnancy with Evan, I had visions of babywearing. I just loved the idea of being able to hold my baby close to me within a sling or carrier, and the ability to maintain some mobility in the process seemed like such a great idea. Well, here we are at 9-months, and as of a few weeks ago I still hadn’t found a carrier that works for us. I actually spent a large sum of money recently on a popular ring sling, and you know what? The lack of structure in most wraps and slings just don’t work for us.
This week, thanks to the folks at ERGObaby, I’ve been able to test a carrier that has a little more shape and a whole lot more comfort. ERGObaby sent me their Black Sport Carrier, and I’ve got to say, it is a comfortable and well-made product!
I am going to spare you lecture about the benefits of babywearing and attachment parenting, because honestly, I’m an expert in neither of those areas. What I am going to tell you, is my honest opinion of the ERGObaby carrier, from the perspective of a mom who just really needs to take a little pressure off her back when lugging around a 21 lb. kid!
One of the things that I was most impressed with about the ERGObaby, was the softness of the fabric. I also appreciated the easy to adjust straps, which made it simple for me to find a proper fit. My mom liked the way the ERGObaby fit as well, and as you can see from the photo of her and Evan below, a good time was had by all during the testing of this product!
Back to the issue of comfort, after wearing Evan in this carrier for 20 minutes, I realized, WOW–my back isn’t killing me! The shoulder straps on the ERGObaby carrier are made of high density foam, as well, so my shoulders weren’t aching either. Following is more about the ERGObaby Sport Carrier via their Web site:
The carrier’s body features a vent for extra breathability, keeping both baby and parent cooler. The waist belt can extend an additional 5″ further than our Standard or Organic carriers, and the shoulder straps can extend an extra 4″, providing comfortable fit for babywearers of all sizes.
This is awesome news for those of us who are not a size 2! I really found the fit to be comfortable for me, as well as Evan. This was a much better babywearing experience than the ones I have had with wraps and slings. Maybe I am just completely inept, but I really prefer being able to snap the product on, and make adjustments with the straps. I found my ring sling too difficult to adjust, comparitively.
With summer coming up, I feel so happy that I have finally found a functional and comfortable carrier to tote my kiddo around in!
