We are very easy going and spontaneous, so i don’t find family vacations stressful.

  2. I go a little nuts with the picture taking in family vacation settings. But my favorite part is seeing what my other friends and family members have shots of. It gives me a whole new perspective on our trip from a new pair of eyes!

I think they can be both, but actually more stressful than relaxing! We went a our first (mini) vacation this year and it was stressful making sure things were “planned” so you didn’t get bored, but also allowing time to sit back and relax. In addition to finding healthy places to eat and staying within a budget!!

I think they can be both relaxing and stressful, Exspecially when you have children:) When your on a vacation with children you will probally be relaxing when the kids are swimming or sleeping. I guess depending on there ages. But I say that u cant always have a perfect vacation wether it is stressful and or relaxing. U make the most of it . Enjoy it and make many memories. I know thats what I do !

Both. Sometimes it stresses me out that I am still responsible for everything (just like at home) but relaxing at the same time because at the beach it is hard not to relax. Hotel vacations are harder. It is hard for me to do meals (at least 2) in rooms that have no tables. The last Hilton (in Daytona) that we stayed at had no mini fridge. Can you believe that? You had to pay for it. Heck no, we filled our cooler once a day with fresh ice.

  9. I find vacation extremely stressful. Everything from pre-planning, to the packing, and the organizing. then unpacking into the hotel etc. and re-packing making sure nothing is forgotten. A vacation to me, is the 12 hours after we get back. Everyone is pooped and I get peace and quiet.

Vacations are stressful for me before and after with all of the packing, unpacking, and laundry. I also don’t necessarily enjoy the traveling with the kids. I do however enjoy the vacations while I’m on them, even if they are not too relaxing!!!

If you are able to plan things ahead of time and prepare yourself (or at least to the best of your ability), then vacations with family can be a TON of fun. If your not prepared, then things can be quiet hectic to the third degree and not fun for anyone, including yourself.

Vacations are a little of both for me. But I must say that it is still good to see and do new things and take a break from routine. And families should see as much of our country as they possibly can. Before I die, I would love to see a bit of all 50 of our beautiful states.

Fun, Fun, Fun!!! I have learned that you do not need to schedule something to do every minute of every day. The kids get tired and so do the adults. Allowing unscheduled time, leaves us opportunities to play UNO and board games that we don’t normally have time to play.

I generally find the prep and organizing the vacation is time consuming and stressful but because of all that hard work the vacation itself is fun. I have teens and have done travel with them for years and the one thing I have learned is be prepared and have ways to entertain the kids and this makes everyone’s time so much more enjoyable.

I find that vacations can either be super relaxing or super stressful, it honestly depends on a series of different things. If you’re on a set schedule than most of the time it is going to be stressful, especially when everything is planned out by the hour. Also it depends if you’re taking a vacation where it’s the entire family and not just your immediate family, like if it’s a family reunion. There are bound to be some kind of arguing involved when they’re so many people around, because one person usually wants to do one thing and another one doesn’t. I like to take the type of vacation where you can do things leisurely and at your own pace without anyone telling you when to do things.
Thanks so much for the giveaway!! =)

I’m a grandmaw, so for me…I find family vacations fun and very relaxing. I think as you age, you mellow out and appreciate things more. We take our grandson on family vacations and I enjoy every minute of it. His energy makes me feel younger and makes me want to savor the smiles it brings, the laughter, and it leaves a picture in my mind that I cherrish. We go camping me , him , his papaw. And we took him to the beach this year just him and both me and his other granny for a whole week, it was a blessing to get to share those memories. Now grant you though, I’m tired come sundown age my age lol and ready for a good nights rest, but it’s all worth it. Hope you have a great rest of summer :)

Stressful…Not at all! As a family, we love our road trips and seeing all the sites along the way. Our favorite has to be from Bonney Lake to Colorado and back. Oh but then there was the road trip to South Dakota Mt Rushmore & Crazy Horse & Yellowstone. Saw our first moose on the side of the road. He was huge. So cool. There was the time we bought a truck for our oldest son’s first vehicle at 16. We bought it on ebay from Texas (my husband grew up there) and I ok’d it so my husband & I could fly there and drive the Toyota truck back via New Mexico, Las Vegas. A little get away. So much fun. My son still has the truck…he’s now 24. Of course we’ve done the trip to Disneyland many times. Love our road trips. Soooo many awesome memories.

Hmm..this is a hard one because I’m so there with all that the other moms on the clip were talking about. I LOVE going on vacation however have learned through the years that it IS more often more work going than actually trying to enjoy ourselves-feeling like I need a vacation from taking a vacation. My situation is a tab bit different because I have 3 sons 16, 10, and 3 and my husband is disabled. To add to the mix my Mom who is 71 and can run laps around us both usually goes with us. I just try to prepare ahead of time and realize that not everything is going to go as planned and there HAS to be compromise by everyone. I do look at most of our vacations like it’s for the kids so I don’t get my hopes up ahead of time thinking that I’m actually going to relax and enjoy myself. Might sound sad but it’s true and honestly I really enjoy watching my kids have a blast.
One of the road trip games that we still play is the punch buggy game, I played it as a child with my sister and now we play it with my Mom and my kids.

  30. My family vacations are super stressful. I’m a single mom of two young boys and it is utterly exhausting to go anywhere with the two of them, let alone a road trip. The last one we went on was for a short 4 days exploring Indianapolis, IN. I brought my mom along but she ended up needing a wheel chair to get around the zoo. I was more tired than the kids by the end of the day!

FUN! I never worry and if a problem does occur then we deal with it as it comes. For example: the last three times my boyfriend and I have driven to BC we have had car trouble! The last time our engine died because the company who changed our oil forget to add OIL! We were stranded on the highway for 2 hours and ended up having to buy a brand new car so we could continue on with our journey! That didn’t deter us as we made the trip again the month after! Despite the mayhem we still had fun and were able to enjoy each other’s company which is what vacations are all about anyway!

  39. Always stressful with little snippets of fun to make it worth while. Bottom line- packing for 5 people, shuttling the dog to the kennel, spending a ton of hours on the road, worrying about the house & the cats, living with 5 people in one room & one bathroom most of the trip, hauling heavy bags from the car- is NOT fun or relaxing. If I had it my way we could just live in our favorite vacation spot & get little bits of our favorite things all year long. Currently working on a plan for that one. :)

Family vacations are, for the most part fun and relaxing. I can remember however, one family vacation that occurred about five years ago that maxed out stress and disappointment. My entire family (10 of us total) spent a week together in an ocean front condo in Myrtle Beach, SC. What was supposed to be a fun filled week ended up proving that one person does all the work (me!) and also proved that multiple families cannot live under one roof for any extended period of time. The first two or three days were good. Past that … everything went downhill. I ended up doing all the cooking and cleaning. I took primary care of my 5 month old grandson. I shielded wars between my daughters and my sister. I may have got to spend a grand total of 30 minutes in the sand the entire week. I learned really quick that I would NEVER do an extended vacation ever again.

  53. Both. Definitely both. We just recently took our first family vacation together to our hometown in Japan so that our son could meet our Japanese relatives and we could attend my husband’s father’s retirement ceremony (he was stationed overseas with the U.S. Navy). It was fun because we got to see many of our friends and show off our adorable son… but it was stressful because of the age our son is now and the sensory overload he was experienced. Overwhelmed baby = overwhelmed parents. Everyone was super excited to meet him and sometimes forgot that for the most part, he didn’t know ANY of these people. But all in all, he warmed up to everyone and we all were really, really sad to have to head home.

We are a very organized type of family, so I find vacations to be a bit stressful since we aren’t in our usual routine. With two grandsons under the age of 3, I think it will be several years before family vacations are truly a fun experience. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like we don’t have fun at all while on vacation, but a lot of it is very stressful dealing with two toddlers.

We don’t have the money to take vacations (family of 8!) but I know that even trips to see the grandparents are not really a “break”–not for Mom! I still have to pack for most of the kids (as well as myself) and plan our food. We have a lot of dietary restrictions, so whenever we go somewhere, I have to take our food along and prepare it. I LONG for a vacation, but so far, any trips just equal me doing the same thing I do now, just in a different venue. *Someday* though…

Now that they are teenagers, I get them to set out all their clothes and toiletries and I just do a quick doublecheck to make sure they got everything. Traveling has gotten much easier every year so I now I would have to say lots of fun! We all enjoy the same things to do and like to stay busy.

  64. I went on vacation with my family and it started out stressful! First, we flew in the San Diego and picked up our rental car, and drove to Los Angeles. However, while driving on the I-5 our tire blew out! We were driving at a high rate of speed! No one was injured! Thank God! We pulled over to the side of the highway and went to the back of the trunk to get the spare tire and the jack to change the tire, when we noticed that the spare tire was flat and there was no jack! We were stranded, and did not know what to do. We waited for at least an hour, when a good Samaritan helped us get air in the tire, and let us borrow his jack! Lets just say that the beginning of our trip was terrible, but the rest of the vacation was so relaxing! We arrived in Anaheim California, and our room was so beautiful! We only had to pay $39 dollars a night! We went to HUNTINGTON beach, we went to Disneyland, and we went to so many fun places! We got to spend time in the Spa, and I did not have to cook any meals! I would say that anytime I do not have to cook would be a relaxing vacation! All in all it was a relaxing vacation!

  80. Stressful usually. We shouldn’t have to work so hard to have fun. :) On our last family vacation I was responsible for wrangling blankies that kids refused to leave behind. I slipped on one on my way off a Subway train and almost missed the stop. That was the perfect intro to the week where I scrambled after my kids and attempted to keep up.

We don’t make our vacation stick to a schedule so it is relaxing and we do what we want when we want. I make up a list of things to do and we decide together what to do every day. Our most relaxing trips are the fishing and camping trips.

It’s stressful because I get so little time off from work! Last month I took a Thursday through Sunday off. I went somewhere Thursday, and had a wonderful time. But I got home at 11 pm on Sunday with a bunch of dirty clothes and damp swimsuits and had to return to work on Monday. If I could take a whole week off, I would love to go somewhere for 3 or 4 days in the middle of it, and have plenty of time to unpack and relax once I get back home.

  84. I’m a little of both-I LOVE planning for family vacations and actually going through them but the process in getting from point A to point B is VERY stressful, mostly because my dad freaks out about time schedules and whatnot.

Not a very spontaneous sort of man. Lol

  85. So, so, so, so STRESSFUL! We just did a two week vacation to Florida and it was more work than staying home. I won’t do it again until these kids are teenagers.

I love family vacations. It can be a little bit of a handful when there’s a large group of family going, but otherwise they are very peaceful.

  87. I would have to agree with many commenters, a little of both. It can be stressful one moment, relaxing the next. For now with a 3 y.o. and 9 month old we are much more relaxed when we are home because baby.must.sleep.in.his.bed.at.a.very.particular.time. Otherwise he isn’t very happy and he will let everyone know! I’m looking forward to travel with children when they are just a tad older though!

I’ve had both types of vacations and it usually has to do with where we go. If it’s a tourist trap then it’s always stressful, but if it’s somewhere off the beaten path it can be very relaxing.

I find a family vacation both fun and relaxing and stressful. The prep work and when the kids are real cranky in the car is the stressful part. Once we get to our destination and get settled and unwind we start having a fun and relaxing time.

I find the planning and packing stressful, but the vacations themselves have been fun and relaxing. I think one thing that makes them less stressful is to stay in one place and not hotel/city hop.

Both! Relaxing because you don’t have to worry about dishes, school, fixing supper, work, routine daily activities, etc.! But.. they are also stressful because you have to worry about money and not spending to much but spending enough so that the whole family has fun and enjoys themselves. Its also stressful because I constantly worry about safety…you just never know! Even though vacations can be stressful they are still very much fun and worth it to see the big ole smile on my son’s face every time we go somewhere!

I love a weekend get-a-way with my little Olivia. She’s 2.5 so it doesn’t take much to get her excited and ready to enjoy whatever it is I have planned. The most fun trips are the road trips back home to B’ham, AL. She gets to see her Nana, Uncle Huggy (my bro) and all of my family. My Mom has a huge back and front yard so she can run and play or splash around in her inflatable pool. It’s cool b/c I did the exact same thing at her age and I was definitely a happy kid.

well, being that we’re poor, we don’t usually go on vacations
a trip to my mom’s is considered vacation to us – 800 mile drive or amtrak trip – and usually it’s pretty laid back and not stressful at all.

I think they are a little bit of both. We haven’t been on a real family vacation in a few years, but we are going to TN for Christmas this year. I’ve been planning and preparing, literally, all year. There is stress (its a 12 hour ride!) but I think it will be a lot of fun in the end too.

We’ve only been on a couple but for the most part they’ve been a mix of relaxing and stressful. It stresses me out when the kids want to do/spend more than we can but I enjoy doing new things with them.

Family vacations are a mixed blessing. Ours tend to revolve around the beach and while it is ALWAYS fun playing together and creating memories, the stress of being out of your everyday routine and elements can be wearing. I like to make sure that there are a few things things that remain the same on vacation just to add a little balance into the mix.

They are stressful so we haven’t had very many since the girls were born! I’m hoping as they get older we’ll be able to enjoy them more and stress about things less. We’re planning to go to Disneyland hopefully before the end of the year. I’m nervous about how they’ll do (one is really painfully shy and easily overwhelmed) so we’ll see. We’ve watched a lot of youtube videos of the park, attractions and parades so they’ll know what to expect.

I think they can be stressful but for the most part family vacations are relaxing. The planning and post vacation are the most stressful but I love getting away with my family. I am ill which adds a bit of a stressful component since I can’t plan how I’ll feel when I’m away but it’s always nice to get out and have fun with the ones you love most in the world.

Normally, family vacations are some of both. Wonderful for everyone to get together and bond but that can also lead to tension especially if you don’t have any space or time to yourself. When plans go awry, sometimes the stress level rises. Othertimes, you find fun memories in those impromptu plans. At the end of it all, we still love and care about each other.

I’ve never found family vacations to be stressful, but I’ve never had to plan one so that may be why. We’re expecting our first child in a month, so in the future when I do have to plan and organize and budget everything, I may have a very different opinion.

I find it stressful. Making sure we have clothing, sunscreen, and other items we will need while we are gone. Setting up care for our animals, stopping the mail, making sure our bills are paid for the week we are gone, etc. Making reservations for everything we want to do on vacation, just to name a few of the things I do to make sure everything runs smooth.
