Gwyneth Paltrow ‘Iron Man 3’ interview
A few months ago, I never would have dreamed that I’d have the opportunity to meet and interview the incredible Gwyneth Paltrow. Honestly, it’s still sinking in a bit, and as I read over the transcript of the interview today, I found myself smiling from ear-to-ear, and even laughing-out-loud once again.
Do you want to know what Gwyneth Paltrow, star of Iron Man 3, was really like?
She was radiant, sweet, and surprisingly, really, really funny. Yes, I said FUNNY. I just loved this woman, and really, she just seemed like someone you could sit and talk to for hours. She was so relatable and friendly!
I was a fan of Gwyneth Paltrow before having the opportunity to speak with her in person (who isn’t a fan?), however, I have to say that having the opportunity to gain this insight into her personality has really converted me into a superfan. She’s just… awesome, and I think that if you read through the short interview below, you’ll get a sense of her bright personality.
I was lucky enough to be able to take these photos of Gwyneth, as a photographer, this was a really incredible opportunity!
We also had the chance to stand for a quick group photo with Gwyneth!
I hope you’ll take a moment to read through this short interview. Gwyneth answers some really great questions about Iron Man 3, and you’ll learn more about the dynamic between her and Robert Downey Jr., which, I found fascinating.
Q: Tell us about putting on the suit.
I loved putting on the suit. I’ve never done anything like that in my whole career, and my son was on set — I’ll never forget his face — he was in shock and awe. It was so cool!
Q: If Pepper had her own suit, what color would it be?
Ooh, great question. Silver and white, my favorite colors.
Q: How does it feel to play such a strong character?
I loved it so much. You know, I was getting kind of like, come on, guys, all these boys are flying around doing all this fun stuff, and I loved how patient and kind and sweet Pepper is, but, I loved doing the stunts. I really had never done anything like that before. It was really fun.
Q: Tell us about some of the fun things that happened on set.
I’m so bad at remembering the funny stories. I remember my kids learning how to drive a golf cart. They just started taking off in golf carts.
Or their Nerf gun fights, it was just a fun experience for the family, and they love Robert. They had no idea that Robert was famous until probably a year ago. They just love him so much and he creates a fun environment, and it was was nice. When you work with someone over and over again that you really love, the environment is so familial, and everybody feels it. It really was so great.
Q: Have you seen the film yet?
I saw it. After all the press in London, they rented a little screening room and I brought my son and my daughter and seventeen of their friends and it was so awesome. We watched it in 3D and I was really surprised. I thought it was actually a really a good movie.
I normally don’t watch this kind of movie, and I thought it was so good. There were so many really interesting metaphors in it about the media sort of being proponents of fear, and how that effects in the culture and what’s real, and what’s a threat. I loved Tony Stark being really stripped back and raw, and having to kind of MacGyver his way back to strength. I loved the relationship with Pepper and Tony. I thought it was really cool to see Pepper wanting to get her needs met.
Q: Are we going to see you in more action films?
I would actually really like to, but, am I too old to start now?
Everybody’s been sweet about Pepper in this movie. They were like, you have to have your own movie, because in the comics, Pepper gets her own suit and she becomes a character called Rescue, and I’m like, okay, well, I’d better hit the gym!
I really love Gwyneth’s response to the next question. The story she told about Jeff Bridges was absolutely hilarious, and gave us a real insight into Robert Downey Jr.’s personality and quirks. This exchange had everyone laughing out loud!
Q: What’s it like working with Robert?
It’s so fun. He’s really the most spontaneous, mad genius. It’s really interesting, actually, to see how all these different actors work.
Jeff Bridges, on the first movie, he had binders of research and everything was all underlined and highlighted, and there were graphs and all this.
And then Robert would come in and read the scene and rip it up, and be like, nope, we’re not doing it! Let’s make it up! Poor Jeff Bridges would be dying — he had memorized everything. As the woman, of course, you’re just like, let’s keep everyone happy.
There’s a happy medium to be found here, guys!
You never know what’s gonna happen which I love. Jeff Bridges? Does not love it!
Gwyneth talked to our group for quite a long time. She had all of us laughing, smiling, and enjoying every moment of the time we were lucky enough to spend with her.
I can say now, with certainty, that Gwyneth Paltrow is sweet, smart, sophisticated, and a true beauty!
Stay tuned, because this is only part 1 of my interview with Gwyneth Paltrow. In the next installment, you’ll learn more about her new book, It’s All Good!
If you could ask Gwyneth Paltrow one thing, what would it be?
