I’ll be honest, I only just heard about kombucha about two years ago from a friend who was crazy about the stuff. I’ve since become quite a fan, and it’s why I’m really enjoying these easy homemade probiotic kombucha gummies.
If you’re not familiar with kombucha it’s a healthy fermented drink made by adding a culture of bacteria and yeast to a mixture of tea, sugar and often fruit juice.
You may have heard kombucha referred to as mushroom tea because the bacteria and yeast form what looks like a mushroom cap on top. Kombucha is loaded with probiotics. This type of good bacteria (like the stuff you find in yogurt) has been shown to boost your immune system and improve your overall health.
Don’t worry, you’re not the only one who thinks the idea of kombucha is kind of gross. In fact, I wasn’t sold on kombucha the first time I drank it. I even joked to my friends that it was one of the worst things I had ever tasted!
It’s funny how our tastebuds can change, because after giving kombucha a second and third whirl I actually developed a taste for it. Grabbing a cold bottle of kombucha when I’m in the grocery store is now a treat for me!
Kombucha is effervescent (those bubbles surprised me the first time) and has sweet-tart flavor. My brand of choice is GT’s Kombucha. I like almost all of their flavors, but I’m particularly partial to the GT’s Enlightened Synergy Trilogy flavor.
You can also make your own kombucha at home, but, I haven’t tried that yet! Baby steps! :)
