Probiotic Kombucha Gummies

I’ll be honest, I only just heard about kombucha about two years ago from a friend who was crazy about the stuff. I’ve since become quite a fan, and it’s why I’m really enjoying these easy homemade probiotic kombucha gummies.

If you’re not familiar with kombucha it’s a healthy fermented drink made by adding a culture of bacteria and yeast to a mixture of tea, sugar and often fruit juice.

You may have heard kombucha referred to as mushroom tea because the bacteria and yeast form what looks like a mushroom cap on top. Kombucha is loaded with probiotics. This type of good bacteria (like the stuff you find in yogurt) has been shown to boost your immune system and improve your overall health.

Don’t worry, you’re not the only one who thinks the idea of kombucha is kind of gross. In fact, I wasn’t sold on kombucha the first time I drank it. I even joked to my friends that it was one of the worst things I had ever tasted!

It’s funny how our tastebuds can change, because after giving kombucha a second and third whirl I actually developed a taste for it. Grabbing a cold bottle of kombucha when I’m in the grocery store is now a treat for me!

Kombucha is effervescent (those bubbles surprised me the first time) and has sweet-tart flavor. My brand of choice is GT’s Kombucha. I like almost all of their flavors, but I’m particularly partial to the GT’s Enlightened Synergy Trilogy flavor.

You can also make your own kombucha at home, but, I haven’t tried that yet! Baby steps! :)

These easy homemade probiotic kombucha gummies are a great way to add some probiotics to your diet.

These kombucha gummies are also great for gut health due to the gelatin in the recipe. We should all be getting more gelatin in our diets. Gelatin can help carry fluid through your intestines, and it can even coat the lining of the digestive tract which provides a soothing and protective layer.

Probiotic Kombucha Gummies Recipe

These easy probiotic kombucha gummies are a wonderful way to improve your gut health.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of your favorite kombucha
  • ½ of a really ripe mango (optional)
  • ¼ cup hot water (not boiling, we just want water warm enough to dissolve the gelatin)
  • ¼ cup of quality gelatin
  • coconut oil to grease your mold/dish

Directions:

  1. Prepare a silicone mold, ice cube tray or a glass dish by lightly coating with coconut oil. TIP: Having everything out and measured ahead of time will help this process go smoothly, once you start things will happen quickly.
  2. If using mango, blend or puree the fruit and then mix with the kombucha.
  3. Quickly whisk ¼ cup of the kombucha and ¼ of gelatin together.
  4. Whisk in the ½ cup of hot water.
  5. When that is smooth, mix in the remaining kombucha (and mango) until smooth.
  6. Swiftly pour into your dish or molds and chill until solid.
  7. This will last about 10 days when kept refrigerated in an air tight container or you can freeze them for up to a month.
