My husband is pretty amazing. He works hard, he’s a great dad, and he’s a fantastic leader in our family.

However, he does have his faults, and flashlight-hoarding is definitely at the top of that list.

Does he lose them in the oil-stained abyss that is our garage? Does he, in fact, have 47 flashlights squirreled away in his pickup truck?

Your guess is as good as mine. What I can tell you is that a day finally came when I decided that I needed my own flashlight—filled with trusty RAYOVAC® FUSION™ Alkaline batteries.

I had to be pretty stealthy because Zach has a way of finding any stray flashlights in the house. I actually keep my flashlight tucked away under my side of the bed. It’s my secret flashlight stash, so to speak.

My personal flashlight came in handy two years ago when on Christmas morning, we had an ice storm. Sometime throughout the night, the ice had accumulated so thick that it brought down a tree limb in our driveway that fell on a power line.

Poof! Just like that, our lights (and our furnace, and everything else electronic) was out.

I felt a bit of panic when I realized that the power had gone out. It was sort of like Twas’ The Night Before Christmas, but the clatter that arose was the sound of crackling limbs under the weight of an inch of ice.

My husband and I both emitted a guttural moan, knowing too well that our Christmas morning was going to be unnecessarily chaotic.

“Well, I guess I better find a flashlight,” said Zach, as he staggered through the dark.

As much as I didn’t want to confess that I was keeping a flashlight under the bed, I knew that this was the moment I had been waiting for. That crazy moment in the dark when my husband’s ability to make flashlights disappear wouldn’t have to catch up with him because of my secret flashlight, powered by dependable RAYOVAC® Alkaline batteries

“Here you go, honey. I have a flashlight,” I beamed, proffering the coveted lightstick.

He shot me a confused look that I was able to make out in the moonlight, shook his head, and headed downstairs to assess the storm damage.
