Dear Crissy - Life, blogged.

What happened to Moose and Zee?

There are a few things in my life as a parent that are always consistent.

1. If I try to make myself something to eat while the kids are napping, one of them will wake up.

2. On days when I have to load both kids up to take them to the doctor, we will have torrential rains.

3. No less than 500 times a day, I will see Moose A. Moose and Zee D. Bird from Nick Jr. on my television screen.

Yes, we started letting Evan watch Nick Jr. from a pretty early age. I am a WAHM, which means, there are times when I do need a quiet distraction for my kids. I would prefer it be coloring, or playing with blocks, but sometimes it isn’t. Sometimes it is kicking back on the floor with some pillows, a few Goldfish, and an episode of Olivia!

I know, horrible parent.

Well, after 2 years, we have become very accustomed to puzzle time, hanging out with Panda Scout, the Business Mouse, and other friends of Moose and Zee. The heavily overplayed songs that come like clockwork with each season like, Falling for Fall, The Candy Cane Song, and Believe in Spring, are all gone too, I guess.

While I did really, really wish that Nick Jr. would freshen-up Moose and Zee with some new themes and songs, I do miss seeing their bug-eyed faces, and apparently, I’m not the only one.

Moms react to the disappearance of Moose and Zee

Amanda L. says:

My daughter looked forward to Moose and Zee! In fact, she first starting repeating letters while watching them. They will be missed around our house!

According to Katherine C.:

‎I liked them because they were a little cerebral — and actually taught my kid stuff, like how to approach someone else’s dog.

I also agree with what Erin M. has to say:

My daughter preferred moose over the actual shows! This totally sucks!

So, what happened to Moose and Zee on Nick Jr.?

I guess it’s goodbye for Moose A. Moose and Zee D. Bird. According to Wikipedia:

Bumpers, songs, and interstitial games featuring Moose A. Moose and Zee D. Bird were removed from Nick Jr. at 6:00 a.m. ET on March 1, 2012, following an update of the network’s image, produced by Troika Design Group. After that, Moose A. Moose and Zee D. Bird disappeared from Nick Jr. completely. Also, on that day, the “It’s like preschool on TV” slogan was abandoned and replaced with “The Smart Place to Play”.

Apparently, there is a petition going around to bring back Moose and Zee — sign it if you want to see Moose A. Moose and Zee back on Nick Jr.!

Are your kids going to miss Moose and Zee?

Even though we heard these songs several times, they are still my favorites as well as my daughter’s favorites. They are catchy, funny and best of all…good for dancing and singing along too! So sad to see them go. :(

I know my toddler probably forgot about him so I might be more upset than he is. Though he used to look forward to the songs and liked playing the match games. Those were fun! I also learned from Moose how to approach someone else’s dog. I really am going to miss them.

We miss them every day! We loved puzzle time and I think they should have just had an image update and not gone to the grave. Also – some parents may hate it but I liked the Pre-School on T.V and think it was smarter for the brand. Because when I hear the smart place to play it reminds me that maybe we should all go outside or hit the dress up and not watch T.V. Ha ha!

I did notice and I was not at all happy about it. My son has Down syndrome, and he would interact and light up when they would come on…. Did they need some updating.. yes… but they should not have been eliminated all together. Are parents ever asked or do corporate execs always just make programming decisions based on their likes, wants and needs… I do not like the new format and I am deeply disappointed In Nick Jr. and their decision makers. I am sadden for my little guy =(

we have been watching nick jr for almost 4 yrs. and when we have noticed that moose and zee are gone along with learning categories for shows even some shows. my nephew and daughter both loved moose and zee. our daughter was more excited to see moose than some of the shows. we are quite upset that they have gotten rid of this part of their programing due to that was one of the best learning parts of the station. the afternoon line up is absolutely horrible and my daughter doesn’t even want to watch most of the shows. the only shows she likes when she gets home are olivia (which 99% of the time are missed). and team umizoomi. she loved fresh beat band, wow wow wubsi (when she could watch it), wonderpets, blues clues and dino dan. since they have changed their programing she now asks for us to turn on mickey mouse clubhouse cause she doesn’t like the shows. and we loved nick because of all of the educational programs. until they put moose back i don’t think she will be watching the channel anymore. and i know a lot of parents that are the same way. we are disappointed in this, but it must be. she now has ‘MICKEY MOUSE CLUBHOUSE’ and ‘WORD WORLD’. which we absolutely love ‘WORD WORLD’ caust all it does is teach spelling and how to sound out words. and it makes it fun for kids. so long nick.

My daughter is 13 months and LOVES Moose and Zee. I am so sad they are gone. She likes them more than most of the shows. When she hears that a show is ended she runs into the room expecting to see Moose. He used to be our go to “friend” for her. Anytime she was upset, we would just ask her if she wanted Moose and she would stop crying. I feel bad for her now that he is gone. We don’t like that the took a lot of the shows away too. I think we will swich to Disney.

I signed the petition and sent an email to Nick Jr. Hopefully Moose A. Moose & Zee D. Bird will return soon!!! I urge parnets to do as I did!! I think us moms that let our kids watch TV need to stop feeling guilty about it. My 2 year old knew her alphabet before she turned 2 because of ABC videos I let her watch. The more we talk about it, the less guilty we will feel. So there I said it – my daughter watched, and watches TV and I’m ok with it! And I don’t feel guilty about it!

My children loves Nick Jr. And Moose A. Moose and Zee were a very big part of that. My two year old participated and learned from all the commercial lessons with the patterns, shapes, colors and numbers. The children have been asking all week what happened. I personally loved the songs every season especially the one about the candy corn, :) I think they could have giving the characters an update rather than just rip the children away from them, or atleast a going away party or something.

Moose and Zee were a staple to Nick Jr. Television. I miss them dearly amd hope they return soon. The new ads for upcoming shows are a lack luster attempt to get parents to log online or buy a cd or educational packet. Just listen to what works and thats moose and zee. My daughter, who is 5 1/2 , started watching back when it was known as Noggin. She had a pretty severe speech delay, but her second word, after “eat”, was Moose, which is what this station has been referred to in our home since. She learned alot from them, including her alphabet and colors, all at the age of 2. These tools led to her ability to read at an early age (she reads past second grade level), and I always joke that everything she knows she learned from Moose & Zee! Although she’s beginning to outgrow them, I really hope a future generation can enjoy them, too. We have a ton of DVD’s, and there’s always Disney and PBS, so now we really have no reason to continue watching the station.

You can look up Moose and friends on youtube, copy the link onto catchmp3.net and actually save their songs to your computer. Sure you won’t have the videos, but your kids will have the songs. I know my 2 year old daughter misses moose and friends and a lot of her favorite shows, such as Ni hao Kai-lan, which seem to be slowly disappearing. I hope that Nick jr realizes that Dora, Bubble Guppies and Diego are being overplayed, and we have some pretty disappointed toddlers/preschoolers.

My first born was just four months old when tuning in to that channel, and was were instantly hooked! My next three children also watched Moose & Zee. My youngest is 21 months old, and she loves them too. I actually cried today when I read that they were gone. No more looking to seasonal “move to the music” snippets like ‘Believe in Spring” or “I don’t Like Candy Corn” or “It feels like I’m falling for fall…” Or how about “Were going on a trip…” and ‘Beside the seaside”. To be honest, I didn’t really get the point in why Moose and Zee were still on the channel, they’ve been on the channel before Noggin even became Nick Jr. I understand that the kids are occupied with it, but I also noticed as I watched the channel with my niece that they would always show the same segments all of the time, such as: Puzzle Time and the other things like that, I think that what they should have done was given Moose and Zee new segments other than removing them.

I honestly knew that something would have happened to them sooner or later, they usually show the same themes and songs over and over, but yeah, it did keep my niece occupied, overall, Nickelodeon is flopping, really bad.

You are NOT a horrible parent for letting your kids watch TV. It would be one thing if it was Sponge Bob or Waverly Wizards but these shows on Nick Jr are very educative. My 2 year old sings, counts in 2 languages, talks, knows her alphabet and more. It’s not about making the TV a bad thing it is about choosing the right program they can watch. Regarding Z and moose when we had them we did not have to deal with “commercials” in between shows. I know everybody needs to make money but still losing them really sucks!

That used to be the only really truly educational part of Nick Jr. My daughter actually was learning about rhyming and letters and words from Moose and Zee. I’m having a hard time finding shows that actually incorporate reading skills besides old-school Sesame Street. Sesame Street has been so dumbed down. I was reading at 3 1/2 probably from a combination of my parents reading to me and watching Sesame Street. I’m sad to see Moose and Zee go.

Thank you for your time, a very loyal 24/7, 5 year old customer!

I know my son loved moose and zee… I’m very dissapointed they took them off…He was starting to count at 18 months and learned a lot from him…Also he wasn’t into the shows that were on as much as moose a moose!! I think they should bring him back or if not maybe have a own show just for them it would be great…In fact since moose as been off air he has been watching the new Disney Junior Channel =) And a lot of my friends kids followed

Moose and Zee were some of my daughter’s favorites. She would not let me turn the tv off until she had seen them. I am convinced that they are how she started learning her letters so early.

In the beginning, there was face. It was Space and Time itself. Then, it created Noggin and gave birth to Moose and Zee. In the year 2012, the apocalypse happened, killing Moose and Zee in the process. We now live in a destructive world, where we go by its older, predecessor name, Nick Jr.

My daughter is only three she has been watching Moose and Zee as long as I could remember. When I would go to work my mother would keep my daughter and she would let her watch Nick Jr. and Nick from the time she wakes up till the time I got home which was all day. I can honestly say that Moose, Zee, Dora, Diego, and all of the rest of the shows that came on taught my daughter different things. Some of the things that she learned was how to count, her shapes, differences and even how to talk in Spanish. I really thought that they were taken of for the summer but since I know that was not the reason, I hope they come back on soon they are much missed in my house…….

My grandson is so unhappy without Moose and Zee and I am constantly going to you tube and letting him watch the songs. He is only able to watch them on my phone, so we are limited, but it’s all he wants to watch!!

I have a litle brother. A year ago Moose and Zee were still on Nick Jr. In fact-I remember Moose and Zee, they were around when I was younger. I have friends with younger siblings that loved Moose and Zee-we did too. Half of the shows like Franklin (the original) and more have been replaced by others that are just terrible. Now watching these shows with my brother, it’s depressing that even their old slogan is gone too. Nickelodeon has truly removed a large part of my early childhood.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

So sad about Moose and Zee. I loved them as much as my special needs daughter. I will fight to have them back. Nick JR is NOT the same, NOGGIN was so much better!!!!

Please come back Moose and Zee.
    We love you.
