Clean eating diary weeks 4 + 5

I just wanted to update those of you who are following along with my progress on my recent lifestyle shift toward clean eating! I let a week lapse (oops), but I’m happy to say that I’m still on course with my nutrition and I’m also still doing well sans my precious Diet Coke.

It’s been 5 weeks now since I had a drop of soda and 5 weeks of eating clean, real, nutritious foods. Amazingly, I’ve been pretty strict with my nutrition but I do have moments when it gets tough. Some of the foods that my husband eats makes me go crazy with cravings and I’m starting to wonder if that will ever go away.

At the end of week 4 I had lost 13 lbs., and concluding week 5 I’m up to 15.8 lbs. down!

I am LOVING my Vitamix S55 Personal Blender. Love, love love.

One huge event this week has been my purchase of a Vitamix S55 Personal Blender. I am in LOVE with this blender. It’s taken my smoothie obsession to a whole new level.

Zoodles with turkey meatballs. I made the zoodles using my Veggetti, you have to get one of these things!

I’m also still using my Veggetti quite often and zoodles have been a huge part of my summer meal plan! If you don’t have one of these yet, it’s an absolute must. I still want to try making cucumber noodles and that’s on my agenda this week.

Some of you have been asking me if I’m losing via the clean eating ONLY or if I’m “hitting the gym”. Well, I’ve never hit a gym in my life but I have been walking. My goal has been 10,000 steps on my
Fitbit Charge HR and I’ve been pretty consistent about hitting that mark. To reach 10,000 steps I usually have to walk at least 2 miles on my treadmill. If you’re trying to decide on a fitness tracker and love to walk, I highly recommend the Fitbit Charge HR. You can even challenge your friends through the app which has really motivated me to meet my step goals!

It’s not a lot of exercise, but for me, it’s a good start. I do hope to ramp my exercising up when the kids start school in the fall!

How I’m feeling

Overall I feel great. Since I started eating clean (and dropped grain as well as added sugar) my chronic heartburn has completely gone away. I do feel more energy and have noticed a big change in my skin which I discussed on Instagram recently.

  3. Congratulations on getting healthier and most of all on FEELING better!! I know how much hard work goes into it (both physically AND mentally) and I think it’s fantastic that you’ve found something that works for you!

    I gave up most refined sugar about 12 years ago (!! can’t believe it’s been that long already) and haven’t looked back. (I was diagnosed with thyroid disease, PCOS, and insulin resistance when I was 13, so changing my diet was the key to everything from losing weight to being able to get pregnant to preventing diabetes/etc.) Even so, I still get cravings sometimes, and I do allow indulgences (a small treat once a week, like dark chocolate or a couple of almond flour chocolate chip cookies, and a bigger “real” treat on holidays or special occasions), which actually helps me stay on track the other 80-90% of the time. I’m much healthier (and as a result of that, I weigh less) at age 36–and after 3 kids–than at 16, and I’m grateful for it every day. Anyway, just thought it might give you hope & encouragement to know that eating well in the long term IS doable and you CAN have the fun stuff now and then too. :-)
