Homemade Acne Mask

This basic DIY acne mask is listed on the bentonite clay bottle, and I have to admit that was a little unsure about it. I mean, apple cider vinegar on my face? Since I really wanted to find an easy way to combat breakouts I decided to give this bentonite clay mask a whirl. I love experimenting with beauty products and I’ve been on a mission to find ways to treat my mild acne issues.

Bentonite Clay Acne Mask

DIY Face Mask for Acne

This bentonite clay face mask can do so many things, including:

  1. Draw impurities and toxins out of skin
  2. Heal and regenerate skin tissue
  3. Unclog and reduce the look of pores
  4. Exfoliate, prevent blackheads
  5. Treat acne
  6. Even out skin tone
  7. Leave skin feeling soft and glowing

If you don’t already have apple cider vinegar on hand and need to pick some up (it’s super inexpensive), finding one that is 100% natural and NOT made with apple juice concentrates will give you the best results.

You’ll want to mix equal parts bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar together, I used 2 tablespoons of each; this will create a nice, thick acne face mask. You’ll want to leave the face mask on your face for 10 to 20 minutes. If you have sensitive skin, stick to the shorter timeframe. To be on the safe side, it may be best to start with 10 minutes and work your way up to 20 if you enjoy the results. This acne face mask did leave my face a bit red at the very top of my forehead, but it wasn’t bothersome and the redness faded within 20 minutes.

This easy homemade acne face mask has an almost frothy texture that went on like a mousse and felt quite nice. The vinegar smell wasn’t nearly as intense as I had feared, and after a couple minutes wasn’t even noticeable.

I have to say, this DIY acne mask felt great on my skin. I could almost feel the dirt and oil being sucked out of my pores like a sponge thanks to this absorbent and healing clay. Over time I have found that my blemishes have began to disappear and the texture and tone of my skin has improved. I use this homemade acne mask on my skin about twice a week for best results.

If blackheads are an issue, I would also highly recommend that you try our DIY peel-off charcoal face mask. It’s quite powerful in removing tough blackheads.

Where to Buy Bentonite Clay

Honestly, this was the first thing I asked when I first heard about this wonderful acne skin treatment from a friend. After scouring local shops, I ended up ordering my bentonite clay from Amazon. This particular brand of bentonite clay comes very highly recommended and has thousands of positive reviews and testimonials. It’s what I buy and will continue to buy because simply, it works.

  1. I love love this mask! I do want to make a suggestion though from my research on clay benefits- avoid touching anything metal to the clay. Apparently this deionizes the clay’s ability to draw out toxins due to the electrical charge. Happy mixing!

  2. Great article, I use the same mask. It is recommended that you use a non metal item when preparing the mask.

  3. For the BEST ACV one should be using RAW unfiltered by BRAGG….Its worth the dollar & I don’t find it all that costly considering the quality & size, though I’m sure location & one store to the next can vary…But this is the BEST Apple Cider Vinegar you can buy because you are getting ALL the NOURISHMENT it can provide vs pasteurized…Ohhh & it’s ORGANIC so really a win win…thot yall should consider this 411!! ♥Plus there are many many things you can use ACV for besides the mask ;)

  4. How often you can use this mask ??? , Thanks :)).

  5. I have used this mask for years and it is one of my favorites! I personally love adding in a little bit of raw honey- it improves the smell quite a bit, and you get all of the great benefits from the honey!

  6. I found this mask on another site and have been using it off and on for months now. I can definitely see a difference in my skin, and even a noticeable difference the day after, every time i use the mask! One thing I would add is not to use any metals with bentonite clay, because the clay attracts and absorbs heavy metals, and using a metal bowl or spoon to mix the mask can make it less effective.

  7. How frequently do you use this mask? Can you use rhassoul clay? I use rhassoul in my hair and skin masks already however I have not seen a huge difference in regards to the look/feel of my skin. I love rhassoul for my hair though

  8. Bragg’s raw organic vinegar works the best for skincare. Using metal with the bentonite clay decreases its effectiveness. I use Lalune brand and it’s right on the label not use metal containers or utensils when mixing the clay. You can buy face mask mixing bowl sets on Amazon for using the clay. Love this face mask! It stinks to high hell, but it works!

  9. While you may have had reservations about putting apple coder vinegar on your face, my reservations come in at bentonite clay, since it’s what cat litter is made up of. With 5 cats, I don’t think I would be able to get over the fact that I was putting litter on my face! Then again, I experience frequent breakouts still at 28 years old, and the increasing severity of them has made me interested enough to stop and have to check out this remedy when I saw it!

    • I saw a video a while back stating that people who are on a budget but still want the benefits of a clay mask should try unscented kitty litter.  Just add some water and you’ve got yourself a mask!  So don’t be freaked out by that fact.  Bentonite Clay is a natural ingredient!

    • If you look it up, clay is perfectly safe for you. Some people even eat it.

  10. Sounds great! I think I am going to find some bentonite clay, hopefully not too difficult, and give this DIY acne mask a shot. Btw, NICE blog design!

  11. I love love this mask ! It used to break me out but after a few times my skin got used it I guess ! Even though i have a super dry skin this mask helps !
Thank you for posting this :) Nice blog. :)

  12. I always love how a clay mask makes my skin feel but I swear they actually make me break out. Like they just pull up all the pimples two days later. Drives me batty.

  13. I have used this for quite sometime and it works wonderful, I can actually feel it pulling the gunk out of my face. However, some people may see their face breaking out after the first and second use, like I did. Keep using it, it is just pulling out what is not suppose to be there. I have eeven used this as a spot treatment over night if I have a break out.
