I’ve known about the health benefits of turmeric for some time, but only recently tried making my own turmeric golden paste. This turmeric golden paste recipe is quite easy to make and provides some truly amazing health benefits!
I’ve experimented with turmeric skin care lately (check out our turmeric mask), but did you know that turmeric is even more effective for your health when consumed?
Turmeric Golden Paste Recipe
Turmeric is known for it’s powerful anti-inflammatory properties and has been used by people all over the world for thousands of years to treat conditions like bronchitis, laryngitis, diabetes and arthritis.
Turmeric is even thought to treat and prevent some cancers including prostate, breast, skin, and colon cancer. It’s just so fascinating to me that this item that’s been hiding in my spice cabinet for all these years is such a widely used natural remedy.
I suffer from chronic sinus infections, so turmeric is definitely on my list of top home remedies for sinus infection.
So, why would you want to make this crazy turmeric golden paste stuff?
Don’t worry, I felt a little silly making it at first, too, but it’s a great way to incorporate turmeric into your life.
You can use your turmeric golden paste in turmeric tea, a turmeric latte, a turmeric smoothie, turmeric gummies, or in soups and on salads.
Turmeric golden paste is also the main ingredient for making golden milk!
What’s Golden Milk?
Turmeric golden milk is a wonderfully detoxifying drink that you can easily whip up using your golden paste. Golden milk can soothe joint inflammation and even contribute to clearer skin.
Turmeric golden milk is also a great drink to help remedy minor digestive issues. I recently posted my favorite simple golden milk recipe and I highly suggest that you give it a try!
Don’t Leave Out The Black Pepper!
When you’re making your golden paste don’t leave out the black pepper. it’s important to take black pepper with turmeric (and it’s definitely in our golden paste recipe) because black pepper helps the body absorb the curcumin in turmeric.
What’s Curcumin?
Curcumin is the compound in turmeric that gives it that vibrant yellow color. Curcumin is also what makes turmeric such a powerful and healthy ingredient.
The problem is, our bodies have a tough time utilizing curcumin effectively on its own. When you add just a small amount of black pepper you’re able to boost the bioavailability of curcumin by up to 2000%! Pretty cool, right?
How much turmeric paste should you take?
I don’t think you’ll find any sources that offer exact guidelines on this. However, like anything you should start with a small amount like 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric paste or powder, 1-3 times per day. If you see a benefit you can make adjustments to increase the amount you’re taking. These cold, flu and inflammation fighting turmeric gummies are a great way to start utilizing your turmeric paste.
How Are You Using Turmeric?
I’m really only beginning to scratch the surface when it comes to utilizing turmeric in my daily routines. Having a jar of golden paste in the refrigerator that I can quickly grab makes it so much easier to get my daily dose of turmeric. I highly recommend giving this turmeric golden paste recipe a whirl.
I’d love to hear how you’re using turmeric in your life and what benefits you’ve seen and felt!

I thought you had to simmer stir for 7 minutes a method I’ve used for years..do you think this is unnecessary?
Can you change the Himalayan salt for sea salt or Kosher salt? This looks interesting and since I have O. Arthritis in knees and starting to get it in my hands and my concerns over pharmaceutical products, I’m trying to go natural alot more.
P.S. I forgot to mention that I add a touch of honey to my golden milk. My plan is to eventually wean myself off of sweetener. The honey just seems to balance out all of the spices in the drink.
I found your page a few months ago and made the golden paste. I have purchased ready-made turmeric powder for beverages. It wasn’t nearly as good. I had planned to use the paste recipe you posted for other things besides golden milk. I haven’t done it so far because I love it used in almond milk. I add a touch of honey and a good sprinkle of ginger and ground cloves when I make the golden milk. In my case I love the flavor, but I have the bonus of the turmeric as well as the ginger for inflammation. My aches and pains are substantially diminished. Love having the paste ready made and available. Thank you🥰
Is it 1/4 of black pepper ?
I have lots of fresh tumeric growing in my garden. Can I use this fresh tumeric instead of powder? If so, how much would I use for the recipe?
Can the golden paste be frozen?
Yes I’ve got 3 jars in my freezer now.
I use olive oil as in original recipe.
Can we leave out the cardamom?
Yes
After making the turmeric paste, I decided it would be good on popcorn. I used around 1/4 cup and added more coconut oil and warmed it in the microwave then poured and mixed into the popcorn. Delish
Black Pepper and Cinnamon don’t always sit well with me. What do you think about replacing them with cayenne pepper and nutmeg? Would it still work?
Do not substitute out the black pepper. It is crucial for the absorption of the turmeric.
It’s a good substitution I think. But be careful with the nutmeg or only have it at night because it can cause drowsiness in higher amounts.
My “paste” turned out a bit runny. Can I still use it like this? Is there a way to thicken it once it’s all been mixed and refrigerated?
Can I use fresh turmeric instead of powder?
If so, how much?
Thanks
I have been making this recipe for almost a year now and I love it. I make double batches because my entire household uses it. We use it mostly during cool/cold weather for various forms of inflammation. I’m 64 years old so I love how my joints and sinuses seem to respond to it.
How much of the paste should be consumed daily? Thanks
I’ve made up the paste, how much should I have a day and is many times and how do I take it.
Regards
David
Was wondering if this paste has been tested with iced golden milk? Because it has coconut oil I was concerned it wouldn’t create weird chunks. I love golden milk but typically love it iced. Love this idea of making a paste though…so efficient!
The way I consume Turmeric is: I melt the coconut oil in a pot on the stove to a warm temperature so not to destroy the antibiotic properties. Then I add the Turmeric powder and black pepper.
I love to eat it just like this however in the same
pot I add fresh carrot juice, stir to blend together
then pour in a tall glass and drink. I like it warm.
This recipe is great. I love the taste in almond milk hot or cold. I’ve been using it for over two months and it has served me well. It saves me from having to pull all the seasonings together for one cup.
How much pasta do you use if you were to make a cup of golden milk?
I I love your side and I was able to eat and fix n Eat the tumeric paste I’ve been doing it every night and I think it works really well and I really enjoy your your post Sharon Abbott
Would it be ok to use actual turmeric root in this recipe?
I have been making turmeric paste for 1.5 years. I take it daily (1 tsp 2-3 times/day) mixed in alittle warm water. I have completely eliminated my monthly cramps (coming from someone who have endometriosis that’s pretty amazing!), among other things…I also make it with the fresh rhizome root when I can find it. Can’t say enough great things about this paste!
I makr a tea of tumeric powder, ginger and some black pepper. Twice a week i brush my teeth with tumeric powder and coconut oil. And twice weekly a mask with tumeric powder and coconut oil.
omg girl you are going to turn orange! everything in moderation ;)
I’m wondering how much salt is in the recipe, because it just says 1/4, I want to guess tsp, but I don’t want to be wrong. Thanks!
It’s teaspoon, I corrected it. Thanks! :)
