Big Mac Tater Tot Casserole

Big Mac Tater Tot Casserole is an easy ground beef dinner idea that brings all the flavors of a classic McDonald's Big Mac sandwich!

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. ground beef lean
  • 32 oz. bag frozen tater tots
  • 1 yellow onion diced
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 8 ounces Velveeta cheese cubed
  • 3 tablespoons dill pickle relish
  • 1 cup Thousand Island Dressing (plus more for serving)
  • 8 ounces Colby-jack cheese finely shredded
  • 1 cup iceberg lettuce shredded
  • ½ cup diced tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Add the ground beef and diced onion to a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season the beef with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook until beef is browned and onions are translucent. Drain excess oil.
  • Add the cubed Velveeta, Thousand Island Dressing (or your Big Mac Sauce dupe), and dill pickle relish. Stir to combine while the cheese melts into the mixture.
  • Spray a 9x13 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. Transfer the beef mixture into the casserole dish and spread evenly.
  • Cover the mixture with your shredded cheddar cheese, and then arrange tater tots over the top of the casserole. I like to leave a small amount of space between each tater tot so it can get crispy on the sides.
  • Bake the casserole for 40-45 minutes, or until the tater tots are crispy and golden brown.
  • Remove the casserole to cool. Serve with desired optional toppings: Shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, additional sauce, and sesame seeds. See notes below for serving suggestions.

Notes

If you’re serving to a larger group, you can garnish the entire casserole with toppings. Layer the lettuce, diced tomatoes, drizzle of Big Mac Sauce (or Thousand Island Dressing) and sesame seeds. Alternatively, if you’re planning on saving leftovers, I suggest adding toppings on individual portions. This will make storage and reheating easier.
